"Hide not your talents. They for use were made. What's a sundial in the shade?"
-- Benjamin Franklin

My obsession with personality tests is no secret. Growing up, I'd skip straight to the quizzes section in the latest issue of American Girl magazine to learn about my "style" or how I spent my money. Naturally, when I got older I took the Myer-Briggs personality test and forced encouraged all my closest friends to join in the fun too. Its a nerdy hobby, I know :)

Late last year I heard about StrengthsFinders 2.0 and immediately put it on the top of my Christmas wishlist. Its a book/online test that helps identify your top 5 strengths and provides strategies for applying them. I'll be the first to admit these tests don't always get it 100% right but my top 5 answers were pretty spot on...

1. Individualization
People who are especially talented in the Individualization theme are intrigued with the unique
qualities of each person. They have a gift for figuring out how people who are different can work
together productively.

2. Restorative
People who are talented in the Restorative theme are adept at dealing with problems. They
are good at figuring out what is wrong and resolving it.

3. Belief
People who are talented in the Belief theme have certain core values that are unchanging.
Out of these values emerges a defined purpose for their life.

4. Discipline
People who are talented in the Discipline theme enjoy routine and structure. Their world is
best described by the order they create.

5. Responsibility
People who are talented in the Responsibility theme take psychological ownership of what
they say they will do. They are committed to stable values such as honesty and loyalty.

Simply being more aware of my strengths has been so helpful. It has also encouraged me to seek out new opportunities where I can put my strengths into practice... like considering volunteering with the Red Cross this fall!

Anyone else taken the strengths finder test? What did you think about it?

  1. I found so much insight in the StrengthsFinder, too! One of the most helpful tools I've come across lately. It was actually shocking how much it made sense! I just revisited the info again the other day as a little refresher.
